    Surface mounted bike racks are the easiest type of bike rack to install. They also provide a lot more flexibility in comparison to their counterparts the in-ground bike rack. The bolts can easily be undone, and the rack moved quickly. Most commonly installed in concrete, they can also be installed on a variety of surfaces as long as the material is solid enough to hold the rack firmly in placed once bolted.

    Types of Surface Mounted Bike Racks

    The three (3) main types of surface mounted bike racks are:

    1. Coat Hanger  a wide base with coat hanger steel frames hanging at intervals for securing the front wheel of bicycles. These are commonly found on school premises.
    2. Hooped  one of the most popular designs the hooped rack is a single steel pipe bent into shape. These offer installation flexibility as you can determine the spacing between each rack to suit your premises.
    3. P Style  also known as a multi-purpose bike rack, this design offers effective bike storage in a small space. With multiple heights and extensions for storage of various shapes and sizes of bicycles.

    What You Need To Install A Surface Mount Bike Rack

    • A solid surface (concrete is preferable)
    • A clean installation site
    • Surface mount bike rack
    • Base plate with fixing holes for bolt insertion (included with rack)
    • Heavy duty screws and washers (not included)
    • Drill (depending on the surface special drill bits might be required)
