Stair Nosing & Tactiles for a Mixed-Use Development – Armadale, VIC

Enforcer supplied and installed stair nosing and tactile indicators at a commercial property in Armadale, Victoria, to support safer movement and accessibility throughout the building. In multi-level commercial environments, stairs and changes in level can present risks for people moving through the premises, particularly those with vision impairment.

The installation combined Black/Grey Aluminium Stair Nosing with a Silicon Carbide Insert and Black Single Stud Tactile Indicators to help improve stair-edge visibility, provide slip-resistant edging and make potential hazards easier to identify through touch.

Location: Armadale, VIC

Type: Commercial Property

Project Scope

The project included the supply and installation of Black/Grey Aluminium Stair Nosing with Silicon Carbide Insert and Black Single Stud Tactile Indicators. The stair nosing incorporates a Silicon Carbide Insert to provide a slip-resistant surface at stair edges. The tactile indicators provide a detectable surface intended to alert pedestrians with vision impairment to potential hazards or changes in level when installed in appropriate locations. Together, these products address two important aspects of pedestrian safety: reducing slip-related risks on stairs and improving hazard awareness for people navigating the building.

Challenges and Solution

Stairways require particular attention to safety because missed steps, slips and difficulty identifying stair edges can result in falls and injuries. People with vision impairment may also rely on tactile cues to recognise potential hazards along their path of travel. To address these considerations, Enforcer supplied Aluminium Stair Nosing with a Silicon Carbide Insert to provide slip-resistant edging and help distinguish stair boundaries. The installation of Black Single Stud Tactile Indicators adds a tactile warning surface to support hazard awareness and navigation. By combining stair-edge protection with tactile indicators, the project incorporates practical safety features intended to help reduce the risk of falls and support more accessible movement through the complex.

Project Outcome

The installation provides a combination of stair safety and accessibility measures for the development. The Silicon Carbide Stair Nosing supports slip resistance at stair edges, while the tactile indicators help communicate potential hazards to pedestrians who rely on tactile information. These measures contribute to a more considered approach to pedestrian safety, helping address stair-related risks and support accessibility for building occupants and visitors.
