What is a threshold ramp?
Threshold or rubber ramps make it easy to move wheelchairs, walking sticks, and scooters across door thresholds of different sizes. These ramps work not only indoors but also outdoors, including on balconies, patios, and similar spaces.
Australian Standards
A threshold ramp is a compact, non-slip ramp designed for doorway access. It's suitable for bridging height differences up to 35mm and should not extend beyond 280mm (with a maximum slope of 1:8).
Usually, ramps shouldn't be steeper than 1:14. But if a ramp is relatively short (up to 1900mm long and 190mm high), it can have a slightly steeper slope of 1:10. Kerb ramps must have a gentler slope, no steeper than 1:8. In doorways, threshold ramps can have a slope of up to 1:8, as long as they're not higher than 35mm.
